Using Django As Your Web Framework

djangoDjango is one of a couple of pre-installed applications we currently offer on our virtual private servers , a summary on the django website describes it as “a high-level Python Web framework that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design.”

What this actually means is , its saves you time  , alot of it. It does this by providing you with a large range of pre-installed modules which you can easily use and configure to suit whatever application your looking to build.
As Django is already pre installed on your server with us i can skip that part and explain how you go about how django is set-up and basic settings you might need to get started

365 x18 My Laptop On ZenWalk Linux

We here in Dediserve are huge fans of Xen, after all our whole virtualized platform is built on it. However we did throughly investigate all the existing virtualization technologies currently on the market when we went to build out our own platform.

So to save you the same hassle i will outline below our feelings on each technology we looked at both good and bad.

Xen

Pro’s

  • Using Paravirtualisation technology It allows several guest operating systems to be executed on the same computer hardware concurrently
  • You can physically reboot the node with no affect to any other users on the same harrdware
  • You can install and set-up Iptables
  • You do not share resources and are guaranteed resources
  • Its Free

Con’s

  • Guanteed resources means having less users on each machine
  • Not as mature as some of the other commercial virtualisation technologies

iptables-network-security

After just installing iptables, it will have no rules on the INPUT, OUTPUT or FORWARD chains:

# iptables -L

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

And the default policy on each chain is “ACCEPT”, which means there are no restrictions: any incoming and any outgoing packets are allowed.

Installing Iptables on your VPS machine

One of most useful things with regards running xen on your VPS server  , apart from the guaranteed RAM, and the ability to hard reboot your machine is also the ability to configure IPtables on your Machine.

Some of the main features functions available with Iptables is the following:

•    Build internet firewalls based on stateless and stateful packet filtering
•    Use NAT and masquerading for sharing internet access if you don’t have enough public IP addresses
•    Use NAT to implement transparent proxies
•    Aid the tc and iproute2 systems used to build sophisticated QoS and policy routers
•    Do further packet manipulation (mangling) like altering the TOS/DSCP/ECN bits of the IP header

In most Linux installs iptables has become a standard option, especially centos. There is a very good chance that iptables is already installed on your machine. Check by:

1.    Opening a terminal window (making sure to be logged in as root).
2.    Typing: # iptables
4.    If iptables is installed, you should get the following message: iptables v1.2.8: no command specified Try ‘iptables -h’ or             ‘iptables –help’ for more information
5.    If this message does not appear, then follow the directions below to install iptables.
