Were Happy to announce we have now released Ubuntu 10.04LTS as a template for all dediserve customers, you can move to this Operating system via a re-install through your control panel.

Warning – this will wipe all settings /content currently on your server , so take a back-up through your dediserve control panel if you wish to do a clean install ,otherwise upgrade to 10.04 via your command line – see previous blog posts for steps to do this.

Here at dediserve we generally only put together templates based on tested and secure operating systems that are a couple of years old, after all not many want to take the risk of hosting their data on bleeding edge OS releases, however we do have some customers that require the lastest release for their testing/development machines.

So i have put together this tutorial on upgrading your ubuntu 8.04 LTS template with us to the latest Ubuntu server release 9.10. Simply follow the steps below via the command line on your server.This needs to be done in stages from version 8.04 through to 9.10.

If you are upgrading a Live Machine ensure you have taken a Back-up Via your Dediserve control panel.

As a follow on from the django framework post i wrote about previously , i will now talk about a second framework that we also offer pre-installed on our virtual servers, which is probably the fastest growing framework out there today and thats Ruby on rails , RoR is also an opensource web application framework for the ruby programming language and is used for rapid development.

As your VPS comes already pre-installed and pre-configured with the RoR saving you time and hassle, you can login straight away and start configuring your app/site.
