Welcome to dediserve
Welcome to the first post of dediserve’s new blog , not only will we use this blog as a promotional tool to keep you up to date on new features and upgrades to our services but also as a way of keeping you up to date on news in the hosting market Focusing on Virtualisation, it’ll also allow you to provide feedback on our services and products.
As it’s the first post , i’ll provide abit of background on the concept of how Dediserve came about.
I founded dediserve in February 2009 , after looking around the irish hosting market and being underwhelmed by the pricing and specs of the virtual server market and i firmly i believed i could come up with a far better way of doing things.
Key to this was the development of a bespoke control panel , one which would provide the end user with alot more flexibility and control than anything out there at the moment. Because of this i could also offer super competitive pricing and specs as it vastly reduced the need to pay licensing costs for the likes of virtuozzo. I choose to go with the free yet enterprise level xen paravirtualiation technology , which unlike virtuozzo allows the user to actually physically reboot their node as-well as manage their server down to a kernel level, something most users especially developers need to do regularly, it also guarantees RAM not “burstable Ram” that most other providers offer.
The idea for the bundled application stacks was very simple , most people get servers as they want to deploy a website or application – so what they want is not the hosting but the environment. This is where the application stacks came in – with them, users could now via one click and within a matter of minutes have their chosen environment , wether that be , LAMP (linux , apache , php , mysql) , ruby on rails , or django quickly deployed and ready to work.
Once that was done i turned my attention to the infrastructure to manage it all ,the three requirements needed – it had to be fast , redundant , and scalable. This was something i could easily put together from my years working in this area for data centre provider hosting365. To most people the “cloud” has become just another buzz word , but a cloud infrastructure provided me with exactly what i was looking for , so i went about designing and putting together my own cloud. This involved getting a couple of high end beefy servers , connected by fiber channel to a large redundant SAN , with power/network and hardware fail-overs in place.
We are based out of the Digital Hub , which is an Irish Government initiative to create an international centre of excellence for knowledge , innovation and creativity focused on digital content and technology enterprises. Being Based here allows us to bounce our ideas off the sort of people who actually use our services , which can only benefit both us and our users going forward. If you ever in the area feel free to drop in
